Meet April’s Dental Nurse Hero

Introducing April’s Dental Nurse Hero, Katie Howarth from our London Street, Fleetwood practice. Katie was nominated for her hard work and dedication to her practice both throughout and prior to the pandemic. Kate has been a Dental Nurse for 19 years after relocating to the Fylde Coast from Devon.

In this time, she has completed courses in Implant dental nursing, first aid, become a mentor for student dental nurses and even became a Fit Tester during the pandemic. On becoming a Fit Tester, Katie said, “A lot of colleagues were nervous working during the pandemic, but I tried to put my peers at ease and when the opportunity arose to become a Fit Tester I thought I would be a good candidate. I have now fit tested 37 {my}dentist employees and self-employed clinicians.”

Katie’s nominations also praised her for keeping morale high in practice, despite being the only qualified Dental Nurse in the height of the pandemic. One submission stated, “Katie has been an instrumental part of the team, especially throughout the first lockdown as she was the only qualified nurse in practice. She assisted the three student dental nurses that where all due to sit their exams through their training. We have also had two new starters in practice that Katie has guided and trained into brilliant dental nurses. Katie brings such a great positive energy to the practice and brightens each day. She is an asset to the practice.” One of the key elements of Katie’s nominations described her excellent rapport with patients and detailed an instance where one of her regular patients had passed away and Katie went above and beyond to offer her condolences to the family with flowers on the day of the funeral. On speaking of her time at {my}dentist, Katie said “I have thoroughly enjoyed working for the company and with the great colleagues that I have, I feel supported and look forward to coming to work each day to see my patients and my colleagues around me. I feel like I have gained a lot of personal and work experience whilst working through the pandemic and I will treasure the time we have had as a team as it has made us stronger.”

We are so proud of Katie and the hard work she puts in to helping both her practice and patients. Congratulations on being one of our #DentalNurseHeroes and thank you for all that you do.
